At Nourish Lens, our goal has always been to cut through the noise of marketing claims and provide you with a clear, honest look at what’s on your plate.
We get asked often: “How does the Health Score actually work?”
Today, we’re pulling back the curtain. We want to show you the logic behind the lens so you can move from guessing to knowing.
The Philosophy: Quality Over Quantity
Most apps focus on what you take in (calories). We focus on the integrity of what you eat. Every food item in Nourish Lens is evaluated based on its proximity to a “Perfect 10”, the ideal state of whole, nutrient-dense food.
The Scoring Breakdown
When you scan an item, our algorithm evaluates it across two primary categories:
1. The Deductions (The “Noise”)
We subtract points for elements that compromise long-term health and are often hidden in complex labels:
Heavy Processing: How much has the food been stripped or altered from its natural state?
Artificial Additives: The chemicals, dyes, and preservatives that offer no nutritional value.
The “Hidden” Trio: We deduct points for excess Sugar, Sodium, and Unhealthy Fats—the primary drivers of inflammatory and processed-food diets.
2. The Additions (The “Signal”)
We reward the items that provide real fuel for your body:
Whole Ingredients: We look for the “real” stuff.
Fiber & Clean Nutrients: The essential components that support digestion and long-term vitality.
A Dynamic, Personal Score
The most important thing to understand about the Nourish Lens Health Score is that it isn’t static.
We know that “healthy” is personal. One user might be focused on lowering sodium, while another is trying to increase fiber intake.
How Goals Affect Your Score:
When you set a specific health goal, the score dynamically adjusts. It prioritizes the nutrients (or limits the additives) that matter most to your specific health journey.
Why This Matters
By quantifying these factors, we remove the guesswork. We aren’t just giving you a number; we are providing a transparent look at the quality of your food.
We believe that when you have a clear lens, you can make better choices for your body—one bite at a time.
